About me
I am a retired mining engineer, business analyst/programmer. I started in the NSW Underground Coal Industry in 1976, where I taught myself to program. In 1996 I left the Coal Industry to work as a business analyst/programmer. In 2008 I started my own company Yellow Rock Mining Services and returned to mining, up until my retirement in 2020.
The languages I picked up along the way included VBA, C, C++, Pascal, Java, Lotus Script, Go, Rust and now Elixir. This web application is my latest undertaking and current project.
About this app
This app is a Phoenix application served at www.offgridmobility.com.
Why Choose Phoenix?
If your project requires high concurrency, massive real-time capabilities (chat, dashboards, collaboration),
low predictable latency, and bulletproof uptime, while remaining low on resourses its a good choice.
While WordPress, Laravel, Django and Node may offer faster initial onboarding due to larger developer pools,
they do not offer the same level of security or performance.
Phoenix pays massive dividends down the road in server efficiency, architectural cleanliness,
and structural resilience. Phoenix runs on BEAM (Erlang VM), which utilizes lightweight, isolated processes.
It can sustain millions of concurrent users on consumer hardware.
I also run 2 demo Go applications /init and a Rust application /rust off the same machine. Choosing between these three languages is
a matter of personal preference and project requirements.
Go is a great choice for building scalable, concurrent, and efficient applications, when you can live with its garbage collector.
Rust is a great choice for building high-performance, concurrent, efficient applications. All three languages together coupled
with scylladb and Postgres can meet the most demanding requirements.
